About Living On Bereavement Service

Living On was started in 2016 because it was clear to the founding trustees there was insufficient local support for bereaved families. Much more needed to be done to help children cope with their grief, minimise the damage that could occur in their formative years, help them form positive relationships and support them to reach their full potential.

Living On offers young people, children and their families an opportunity to acknowledge their grief and find ways to cope and carry it with them into adulthood, in a way that is not overwhelming or a lonely experience.

Living On is a small, local charity but with a big heart that is dedicated to its community. We have three highly skilled and professional Family Support Workers who are supported by a team of committed, experienced volunteers overseen by eight dedicated and passionate Trustees.

Living On Bereavement Service is based in Orpington and supports children, young people and their families when someone they love has died. We offer a bespoke service as no child or family grieves in the same way, therefore they cannot be offered the same intervention.

We tailor our services to meet the needs of the child, as these needs can change over time as the child gets older or the family changes. The support we offer varies and can be in the form of one to one bereavement support, Dramatherapy groups, family therapeutic groups, and advice and support to parents/carer and professionals working with the child. We also hold social events where we bring bereaved families together in a safe and welcoming environment.

Our door is open to any child under 18 who has been bereaved and lives in Orpington and the surrounding areas.
